The MBC Yeouido Studio – also called a “Crystal in a Concrete Forest” – shows the process by which mass media became a part of everyday life in modern Korea. The building is characterized by a majestic, yet gentle feel, which can be seen through its use of exterior and interior design techniques and materials. The circular shaft (vertical channel) on the elevation facing the street visually reflects the identity of a cultural broadcasting based on communication and relationships. Furthermore, the brilliant and rich colors created by the use of purple tiles and reflective glass – departing from the white Modernism – not only express the progressive image of the media in a changing Korean society, but also embody a light urban countenance and sensation.
